(Anastazja Kasprzak)

Poles in Bologna gave a special evidence of memory. Historical and personal at the same time. Texts, photos and documents collected here recorded episodes from daily life, life that went on against  the war. Battle danger and death were constantly present but also casual matters and non-war issues were of prior importance: love, friendship, education, laughter…..because that matters allowed people to survive and to keep humanity. Life was stronger than death, so youth got to know each other, got married…..
For boys of the 2nd Corp liberation of Bologna  and hanging Polish Flag on Torre degli Asinelli was an award for their great effort and sacrifice they made in all battles of the whole Italian campaign. Polish flag was not only the sign of victory, but overlooked the city as a symbol of hope for people who remained in Poland and had some dreams, the same dreams as Anders’ soldiers had, dreams of an independent and free Poland. Sol-diers of the 2nd Corp fought for such Poland, all along their way, and believed that some day they will return to the country of their dreams. (Anastazja Kasprzak)
